Well done to everyone who performed at the 13th Rorke's Drift Concert last Saturday! The whole event was an amazing success. The launch of Cadet 150 in Wales involved nearly 400 Cadets and Instructors, 160 of whom were musicians!
Here is the first picture of the winner of The Fred Smith Award, looking like a pop star as he was persuaded to sing for the SOLD OUT audience! Hywel Dowsell sang This Is The Moment from the musical Jekyll & Hyde.
The 2 Xylophone players from the Royal County of Berkshire stunned the audience with their performance and the encore was amazing! Tom & Phillip……well done! Willian Tell will never be the same!
Piper Shaun Reardon made a surprise visit to the stage direct from his flight from Glasgow to accompany the band during the Gael and then went on to perform a fantastic Pipe Set on his own before marching smartly away to ‘Scotland The Brave’
Danielle Draper on Clarinet introduced the Cadet 150 audience to some Jazz in the Artie Shaw Clarinet Concerto, whilst George Pamenter made the County of Cumbria very proud with his rendition of the Louis Armstrong hit ‘What a Wonderful World’ Both Danielle and George had the audience in raptors of applause following their solos. You can both be very proud!
Christian Dullea from Gwent & Powys ACF Regimental Band (Welsh Guards) celebrated our new musical concert links with Ireland by performing a faultless rendition of Stephen Roberts Carrickfergus. Many of the audience were brought to tears by his sonorous tone on the Euphonium. Well done to him, and for getting so far in the Young Musician of The Year Competition.
The evening ended with a bang when the Muskets of The Moscow Malitia joined us on stage during the 1812 Overture, with cannons, pyrotechnics, muskets going off everywhere the audience did not know where to look or where to hide!
What an evening, well done everyone! Keep checking back here to see when the DVD will be released and don’t forget to leave a comment in the guestbook by clicking on the ACF crest on the right!
